A Sixth Form Science Student's Reading List 2021

Sorry for not posting that regularly recently; I'm currently being swamped up by the grind. So here's a pretty tame post on what I've been reading and what I plan to read in 2021.

A quick aside about what I usually read. As someone who is interested in science, I don't read what a humanities student might read, such as classics like Great Expectations. In 2020 I spent most of my time reading books around dentistry and medicine for my personal statement and interviews (find the posts on them here ) and I really enjoyed them. I also spent some time reading about self-help and sciencey books. Now I'm still interested in those books but have also picked up reading some fiction and some books around society.

Biographies
Shoe Dog
From The Ground Up
A Promised Land
Elon Musk
Dear Life
Everything That Makes Us Human
Do No Harm
Trust Me, I'm a Junior Doctor
War Doctor
Face-to-Face
More Than A Mouthful
It's All In Your Mouth

I've recently gotten into biographies- I highly recommend Shoe Dog (by the founder of Nike), Elon Musk's biography and Obama's. What makes these really interesting is that they give an excellent insight into successful people's lives but also how they came into their success, including their struggles and difficulties along the way. Not only will you definitely learn something from these books, they are simply very well written and a fascinating read.
Similarly, I recommend biographies of doctors (War Doctor, Everything that Makes Us Human, Dear Life etc...) but I read them last year and discussed in the post linked above.
Psychology and Self-Help
I'm Okay You're Okay
The Courage To Be Disliked
Games People Play
The Motivation Myth
How to Win Friends and Influence People
Grit
Happy
How To Talk To Anyone

I've also really enjoyed books around the way people think and social issues. Of the back of reading I'm Okay, You're Okay and The Courage To Be Disliked, I've read Games People Play, Thinking Fast And Slow and The Motivation Myth. The first two are more focused around social interaction, while the third has a more self- help vibe
Fiction
Children of Time/ Children of Ruin
Roy Grace Series
The Roy Grace series is a pretty well known line of books. As someone who loves crime shows and novels, I'm thoroughly enjoying reading through the series. And unlike many any series, this one is pretty long (16 books I think) so there is a lot to keep you entertained,

The Children of Time 2 book series is a much harder read, with a non-trivial amount of description and set up rather than action. However, if you're up for a somewhat challenging fantasy/sci-fi book, you won't go wrong with these.
